Paragraph
Aikya, derived from the Sanskrit word for oneness, unity, harmony, unanimity, identity, and sameness, reflects the philosophy of interconnected living. Rooted in the principles of permaculture, it is designed as a self-sustaining sanctuary that fosters unity between architecture, nature, and community. The design features bold triangular forms and expansive arches, symbolizing openness and strength, while a cantilevered roof creates shaded spaces for gatherings and reflection.
Conceived as a grounded yet expressive single-storey dwelling, the geometry becomes the primary generator of space and experience. The plan is derived from the angles of 60° and 120°, giving rise to a disciplined yet fluid triangular order that defines both layout and form. Entrance leading directly into the living space, from which all functions unfold. The kitchen anchors one end of this axis, while the bedrooms are placed at the other, articulated as diamond-shaped volumes that open independently onto private verandahs, ensuring privacy while maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors.
Inspired by the geometry of two interlocking triangles, the star-shaped plan orchestrates natural light from three sides, creating a luminous environment. At the heart, lies a central gathering space, accessed through welcoming arches on three sides. This geometric fusion becomes the guiding framework through which functions are organized. The outer edges formed by the intersecting triangles accommodate the private and semi-private spaces such as bedrooms and the kitchen, each extending outward into cantilevered balconies. In contrast, the overlapping core of 2 triangles gives rise to a generous central living space, conceived as the nucleus and the primary zone for everyday interaction and gathering.
The architectural expression is defined by its roof form; a triangular roof plane lifted at the centroid and sloping dynamically in three directions, responding to the geometry below. This roof is punctuated by three skylights, carefully positioned to draw natural light deep into the central living space, animating it throughout the day.
