The objective was to design a cost-effective quadrupole mass spectrometer with strong visual character-distinct from the conventional boxy forms. The machine had to reflect international design sensibilities while housing cutting-edge, in-house technology developed by BARC. From aesthetics to internal structural engineering, every element was designed from scratch to support the goal of commoditising the technology for broader industrial use, merging advanced functionality with a refined, globally competitive form. To break away from the conventional boxy aesthetic, the form was reimagined to convey character and a distinctly international appeal. A dual-tone palette of blue and white brings freshness and identity, complemented by a custom-designed logo screen-printed on the front panel. The body is crafted from 1.6mm CRCA sheet metal, finished with a satin powder coat to reduce glare and deliver a refined, matte-like appearance.
